Choosing to get behind the wheel while intoxicated is more than just a bad decision. It is a criminal and reckless act that often leads to loss of life. Recently, two more innocent lives were tragically lost at the hands of an alleged drunk driver in Colorado. A mother and her teenage son were hit by the driver who witnesses said was speeding at over 100 miles per hour.
This unfortunate accident happened on Main Street near Broomfield High School. According to reports, a pickup truck was headed south on Main Street toward Miramonte Boulevard at a high rate of speed. Reportedly, the driver was driving recklessly, passing cars on a double yellow line in the center median while reaching speeds of over 100 mph. The impact of the collision knocked the passenger side of the sedan into a tree. Authorities said the mother was driving and died at the scene of the crash and her son died a short time later at an area hospital. Police said the driver of the pickup truck was arrested and is facing DUI and other serious charges. Reportedly, the driver’s blood alcohol content was found to be over three times the legal limit.
Options for families
Losing a loved one at the hands of a drunk driver could be one of the most difficult things to experience in life. The immediate family members of the mother and son who were killed in this tragic Colorado accident have the right to speak with an attorney about filing a wrongful death claim against the drunk driver in civil court. A successful claim could result in deserved financial relief and possibly a sense of justice.
