Few things are as exhilarating as cruising down an open road behind the handlebars of a motorcycle. Colorado is home to thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts. However, the allure of riding motorcycles comes with some unique risks. Motorcycles can be more difficult for drivers to spot. Too many bikerss are injured or killed simply because another driver did not see them.
Hit-and-run motorcycle accident
Recently in Canon City, a driver apparently fled the scene of an accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist. The crash happened at night on Colorado 115 near milepost 2. Reports said a motorcycle and a pickup truck were both headed east on Colorado 115 when they collided. Reportedly, the impact caused the rider to be ejected.
Unfortunately, authorities said the motorcyclist suffered injuries that proved to be fatal. According to reports from the Colorado State Patrol, the pickup truck driver fled the scene immediately after the collision. Investigators have not located the hit-and-run driver and are asking the public for help. They believe the vehicle to be a white crew cab pickup truck.
Options for legal recourse
Some of the risks motorcyclists face are not the same as for motorists in passenger vehicles. Riders are completely exposed so any accident could have devastating consequences. Those in Colorado who have suffered injuries or the loss of loved ones due to negligence in motorcycle accidents could benefit by speaking with a knowledgeable attorney about their options for legal recourse.
