Colorado is thriving these days. People are moving here from all over the country to take advantage of the natural beauty of this state as well as the plentiful economic opportunities. However, unfortunate byproducts of this sudden population increase are overcrowded roadways. When roadways are crowded and congested, the chances for serious or fatal car accidents only increase.
Details of a serious accident
A 10-year-old girl was left paralyzed after her family’s vehicle was involved in a rear-end collision. The accident happened near Genesee in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70. Apparently, there was heavy traffic on the roadway that resulted in stop-and-go traffic for miles. According to reports, the family’s vehicle was stopped behind traffic on the interstate when another vehicle plowed into the back of them.
Reportedly, the girl’s spinal cord was severed in the crash, and according to her father, she is now paralyzed. Reports said the driver of the vehicle that slammed into the family’s car was a deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office who was off duty at the time of the accident. The officer was charged with three counts of careless driving resulting in injury.
Help for victims
There is nothing worse than suffering a permanent injury or losing a loved one in an accident caused by a reckless or careless driver. Those in Colorado who have suffered injuries or loss in car accidents caused by the negligence of another party have the right to consult legal representation and pursue damages. Monetary damages from a successful lawsuit could help families recover any financial losses that may have occurred due to such a tragic event.
