Traffic seems more congested than ever in Colorado these days. In recent years, cities and communities across the state have expanded infrastructure to accommodate the increase in traffic and make roads safer. Of course, safety is also the responsibility of both drivers and pedestrians. Unfortunately, not all motorists drive with caution behind the wheel.
Accident details
Recently in Colorado Springs, a pedestrian lost his life after he was hit by a car while walking on a sidewalk. The incident happened during the early morning hours on North Academy. According to accident reports, the driver of a car abruptly drove over the curb and onto the sidewalk, hitting the pedestrian. Authorities said the pedestrian died at the scene of the accident.
Police said they don’t believe alcohol, drugs or speed were factors in the crash, but think the driver may have tried to dodge something in the road. An officer who investigated the crash said the pedestrian was legally walking in a safe zone and there was nothing more he could’ve done. Reportedly, this was the fifth pedestrian death in Colorado Springs so far this year.
Options for surviving family members
Dangerous driving behaviors like speeding, impaired driving or distracted driving will ultimately result in serious or fatal accidents. Those in Colorado who have suffered the tragic loss of a loved one in an accident caused by the negligence of another party have the right to take legal action. By speaking with an experienced attorney about filing a wrongful death, surviving family members could obtain the monetary damages they rightfully deserve.
