It is devastating to lose a beloved family member in an accident. Unfortunately, this scenario becomes a reality for thousands of families every year in Colorado and across the United States. Losing a loved one in a crash is traumatic enough, but when a driver with ill intent causes a fatal crash and flees the scene to avoid accountability, the consequences can be horrific for those affected.
Details of fatal hit-and-run incident
Officers with the Colorado State Patrol are currently searching for a driver who they say caused a fatal crash and fled the scene. The incident happened during the afternoon just south of the Larimer County/Boulder County line on U.S. Highway 287. According to reports, a sedan was traveling south on 287 when the driver of a maroon pickup truck hit the left side of the sedan and spun the car into oncoming traffic.
Reports said the sedan was struck again on the passenger side by a northbound pickup truck. Tragically, two people in the sedan were killed while the driver of the northbound pickup truck sustained serious injuries, authorities said. Reportedly, the maroon truck fled the scene. Officers said the drivers of the maroon truck and sedan were involved in a road-rage argument prior to the crash.
What can families do in the aftermath?
When a loved one is lost in an accident caused by negligence, it is important that the surviving family members know their rights and options. Those in Colorado who have lost a beloved family member due to the carelessness or neglect of another person may want to consider seeking the assistance of an experienced lawyer. By filing a wrongful death claim, surviving family members could be awarded monetary damages to help ease their suffering and pay end-of-life expenses.
