One would think driving in the wrong direction would be a hard mistake to make. However, motorists driving in the wrong direction cause hundreds of deaths every year in Colorado and across the country. Unfortunately, deadly head-on collisions are often the consequence of encountering a wrong-way driver. A recent fatal car accident on a well-traveled Colorado roadway appears to be a case in point.
Details of the deadly accident
The fatal crash happened during the overnight hours in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near Wheat Ridge. Apparently, the driver of a black pickup truck was driving west on the eastbound side of Interstate 70 near Kipling Avenue. According to reports from the Wheat Ridge Police Department, the pickup truck slammed head-on into another pickup truck that was traveling eastbound.
Reportedly, the eastbound pickup truck contained four family members. Tragically, authorities said the driver of the eastbound pickup was killed in the crash, while the other three occupants were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the black pickup truck was also seriously injured. Police said that driver may have been intoxicated and described the crash scene as chaotic.
Where can families get help?
There is nothing that can describe the pain and anguish that comes with losing a dear loved one in an accident. In Colorado, when the negligence of another party contributes to the death of an individual, the surviving family members have the right to speak with an attorney and pursue damages through a wrongful death claim. Compensation from a successful lawsuit could help family members pay end-of-life expenses.
