One of the last things a Colorado driver wants to see is another vehicle barreling toward them in the wrong direction. Accidents caused by wrong-way drivers are usually head-on collisions caused by driver error. When two vehicles are approaching each other head-on at high speeds, there’s very little time for drivers to react. Unfortunately, these are some of the most deadly types of car accidents and often result in serious or fatal injuries to those who are involved.
Details of a horrific wrong-way accident
Recently in Colorado Springs, a vehicle allegedly drove into oncoming traffic on a major interstate and caused a deadly crash. The accident happened just after midnight in the southbound lanes of Interstate 25. According to accident reports, a driver entered the roadway in the wrong direction and began heading north in the southbound lanes.
Reports said the wrong-way vehicle crashed head-on into a car that was traveling south. Tragically, authorities said the driver of the southbound car was killed in the crash. There was no word on the condition of the other driver, but police said alcohol may have contributed to the accident.
Victims have certain legal options
No driver knows what he or she may face on today’s roadways. Encountering a wrong-way driver is nerve-racking and could potentially result in a deadly accident. Most of the time, these types of accidents are caused by another driver’s negligence and carelessness. When this happens, victims and families in Colorado have a right to speak with a lawyer and pursue monetary damages through a lawsuit.
