In Colorado and across the United States, supply chains are becoming strained due to shipping issues. Since tractor-trailers are one of the most efficient ways to transport goods and merchandise throughout the country, truck drivers are in high demand right now. In order to legally get behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer, drivers must complete several hours of training and testing. Inexperienced or negligent truck drivers play a role in thousands of accidents every year. Tractor-trailers are massive vehicles, so the consequences of a truck accident can be catastrophic.
Accident involving a school bus and tractor-trailer
Recently, a crash between a school bus and a tractor-trailer sent two drivers to the hospital. The accident happened just before noon on Highway 96 about five miles east of Westcliffe. According to reports from the Colorado State Patrol, the driver of a tractor-trailer hauling gravel was traveling too fast and failed to negotiate a curve.
Reportedly, the truck overturned and slid into an oncoming school bus. Authorities said both drivers sustained injuries and were taken to a local medical center. Luckily, no students were on the bus at the time of the crash. Both drivers are expected to be okay, police said. The highway was closed for several hours while the crash scene was cleared.
Victims have certain legal options
Colorado drivers know that tractor-trailers are just something they’ll have to deal with nearly every time they take to the road. Unfortunately, negligent and/or inexperienced truck drivers can cause serious and fatal truck accidents. Those in Colorado who suffer injuries or the loss of a loved one in truck accidents caused by negligence have the option of contacting a legal professional and seeking damages through a lawsuit.
