The primary symptoms of a traumatic brain injury

On Behalf of | Aug 24, 2022 | Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injuries are some of the main causes of disability and death in Colorado and across the country. Any violent blow or knock to the head can cause a traumatic brain injury (TBI). There are many things that can cause a TBI such as sudden falls, sports injuries, physical confrontation and car accidents. Even a mild brain injury can affect an individual’s mental and physical functioning. Here are some of the primary symptoms of a TBI.

Look for these things

Some symptoms of a traumatic brain injury often occur right after the traumatic accident or event. Sometimes, however, TBI symptoms may not appear for several days or even weeks. If the injury is mild, it’s normal to feel nauseated, dizzy or have a headache. Other mild symptoms often include blurred vision, confusion, ringing in ears or a brief loss of consciousness.

Luckily, mild symptoms usually go away after a few days or weeks. However, more extreme traumatic brain injuries can have lasting effects. Symptoms of a more serious or severe TBI include dilated pupils, difficulty standing up, slurred speech, weakness or numbness in extremities and seizures.

Where can victims and families go for help?

Traumatic brain injuries that are severe may leave an individual requiring treatment for the rest of his or her life. Brain injuries can render a person completely disabled and unable to function normally. When brain injuries or personal injury happens as the result of the negligence of another party, victims in Colorado can get help by contacting a trusted and knowledgeable personal injury attorney. A lawsuit, if successful, could end with victims and families receiving much needed and deserved monetary damages.
