Many drivers in Colorado likely travel through major trucking arteries on their daily commutes. Understandably, driving a small sedan alongside a massive tractor-trailer can be a harrowing feeling. Tractor-trailers are massive, intimidating and all over the road. One small mistake or one split-second decision can equate to a serious or fatal truck accident.
Details of a fatal interstate accident
Recently in Weld County, several people died in a horrific accident apparently caused by the driver of a tractor-trailer. The accident happened during the afternoon hours along the northbound lanes of Interstate 25 near mile marker 253 just east of Longmont. According to reports, traffic had slowed along the roadway and 2-4 vehicles were in the left lane. Reports said a tractor-trailer traveling in the left lane at an unknown speed suddenly rear-ended an SUV and pushed the vehicle into the median.
Reportedly, the tractor-trailer continued on and hit a sedan, which knocked the sedan into another car. The tractor-trailer went into the median and hit the SUV again before coming to a stop, reports said. Tragically, authorities said a total of five people occupied the SUV and were all killed in the wreck. One of the deceased was a small child. The driver of the sedan sustained injuries, while the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
Victims and families have options available
Since tractor-trailers are so big, any accident can have fatal consequences for those in smaller passenger vehicles. Those in Colorado who have suffered the loss of immediate family members due to negligence in truck accidents can take action and pursue legal recourse by speaking with an experienced attorney. A lawsuit, if successful, could provide deserved and much-needed compensation to help surviving families with end-of-life expenses.
