Winter is a beautiful time of year in Colorado. Throughout the winter months, snow-covered landscapes across the state can be breathtaking and draw many visitors. However, winter weather can also cause massive problems on busy highways and interstates. Icy and snow-covered roadways can be treacherous and are the reason behind hundreds of car accidents every year.
Multi-vehicle crash
A recent pileup crash near Denver involving multiple passenger and commercial vehicles resulted in several injuries and the closure of a major travel route. The crash happened along both lanes of snow-covered Interstate 70 during the afternoon hours. Reports said the crash involved 17 total passenger vehicles and seven semi-trailers.
Several injured
According to the Colorado State Police, four people were injured in the crash and their injuries ranged from minor to moderate. Several ambulances and tow trucks were called to the scene. Officials said winter weather was likely a big factor in the accident. Interstate 70 was closed in both directions for several hours while the crash was cleared.
Although winter can be a beautiful and scenic season in Colorado, it is also one of the most hazardous times of the year for motorists. When driving on icy or snow-covered roadways, drivers should stay focused, allow plenty of time to reach their destination and, most importantly, slow down. Those in Colorado who suffer injuries in car accidents caused by the negligence of another party reserve the right to take legal action. Damages from a successfully litigated claim could help victims recover lost wages and pay medical expenses.
