It’s no secret that motorcycles are becoming quite popular in the state of Colorado. Not only are motorcycles economical, they can also definitely be a fun way to travel. However, motorcyclists must be aware that they are at a higher risk of serious injury or death in the event of a crash. Bikers should ride defensively when sharing roadways with other vehicles. In many instances, motorcycle accidents happen simply because the other driver failed to see the motorcycle.
Serious motorcycle accident
Recently, an accident in Colorado Springs involving a motorcycle and passenger vehicle left a motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries. The accident happened during the afternoon hours on Motor City Drive near Motor City Parkway. According to reports, the motorcyclist was headed south on Motor City Drive when an approaching vehicle attempted to turn left onto Motor City Parkway. Apparently, the vehicle turned into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.
Motorcyclist hospitalized
Reports said the ensuing collision knocked the motorcyclist from his bike and threw him about 50 feet into a nearby parked car. First responders said they applied a tourniquet to the motorcyclist when they arrived and rushed him to a nearby hospital with very serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and was cooperative, police said.
Motorcyclists often face unique dangers when sharing the road with larger passenger vehicles. Since riders are minimally protected, they are at a higher risk for serious injuries or death. When the negligence of another party causes serious or fatal motorcycle accidents, victims or surviving family members reserve the right to take legal action. Damages from a successful lawsuit could help victims and families pay medical expenses as well as ease the pain and suffering associated with such a traumatic experience.
