It’s common knowledge that getting behind the wheel while intoxicated is not only against the law, it is quite possibly one of the most dangerous things an individual can do. Drunk drivers endanger the lives of all those around them. Statistically, impaired drivers are to blame for about a third of all traffic-related deaths each year across the country. Unfortunately, drunk driving is one of the primary causes of serious and fatal car accidents in Colorado.
Serious 2-vehicle crash
Recently, an accident involving two vehicles in Colorado Springs left two people with serious injuries and one driver facing criminal charges. The accident happened just after midnight at the intersection of North Circle Drive and North Union Boulevard. Reports said the driver of an SUV was headed west on North Circle and drove through a red light at the intersection. According to police, the SUV crashed into a sedan that was headed north on Union Boulevard.
DUI
Police said the collision caused significant damage to the sedan. Reportedly, the SUV rolled over after hitting the sedan, but the driver was not injured. The driver of the sedan and a passenger were both seriously injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment, authorities said. The driver of the SUV was charged with DUI, reports said.
Tragically, drunk driving continues to be an ongoing problem in Colorado. Alcohol significantly delays reaction time and impairs a person’s judgment. When negligence in an accident causes injuries or death, an attorney can assist in pursuing claims for personal injuries or wrongful death. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in a significant monetary award to help victims and families with medical expenses and other monetary losses.
