Operating a motor vehicle requires focused attention at all times. Often, the more experienced a driver is, the more comfortable he or she is behind the wheel. Obviously, driving experience can definitely be a good thing. However, years of driving experience can also give drivers a false sense of security or confidence. Losing focus for just a split second while driving is enough time to cause serious or fatal car accidents.
Head-on collision
Recently, a tragic head-on crash in Weld County claimed the lives of four people. The accident happened during the overnight hours on Highway 85 near Carr. According to police reports, the driver of an SUV was traveling south when, for unknown reasons, the driver crossed into the northbound lanes. Reports said the SUV then crashed head-on into a northbound sedan.
Multiple fatalities
Reportedly, there were two people in each vehicle. Tragically, authorities said all four people were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Records indicated that two people killed were members of the U.S. Air Force. The Colorado State Patrol said they are investigating the accident to determine whether the driver of the SUV was impaired.
These days, drivers are faced with a seemingly constant stream of distractions. It only takes a brief lapse in focus to cause an accident with lifelong consequences. Those in Colorado who have suffered injuries or the loss of loved ones at the hands of negligence in car accidents could benefit by seeking the services of a knowledgeable and skilled attorney. A successful lawsuit could provide monetary damages to help victims and families recover from this stressful experience.
