Many people would agree that motorcycles are a fun and economical way to get around. In the state of Colorado, there are many scenic roadways that are perfect for exploring via motorcycle. However, motorcyclists face quite a few dangers, especially when riding near other vehicles. Motorcycles have a small profile, so they can be difficult for other drivers to spot. Also, since motorcyclists are exposed to the elements, motorcycle accidents have a higher chance at being very serious or fatal.
Fatal accident involving a motorcycle
A recent crash in Lakewood involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle claimed the life of a woman. The accident happened at night at the intersection of Sheridan Boulevard and West Yale Avenue. According to reports, the woman was driving a motorcycle when she was suddenly struck by a vehicle. Authorities said the motorcyclist was badly injured and taken to a hospital where, tragically, she passed away.
Serious charges
Police said alcohol, drugs and speed were all factors in the crash. Reportedly, the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody by police. The driver was charged with DUI, vehicular homicide as well as other serious charges. Apparently, the driver had a history of driving under the influence.
Unfortunately, there will always be risks involved when motorcyclists are riding near other vehicles. Those in Colorado who have suffered injuries or loss in motorcycle accidents caused by negligence have the right to take legal action and consult with an experienced attorney. A successful lawsuit could result in a substantial monetary award to help victims and families cope with the pain and suffering that often comes with a traumatic accident.
