Strategies to avoid motorcycle accidents in heavy traffic

On Behalf of | Oct 22, 2021 | Motorcycle Accidents

Denver is the largest city in Colorado, and it seems like the roadways here are always crowded. Navigating these congested city streets can feel like a nightmare. For motorcyclists, riding in heavy traffic can be treacherous. These strategies may keep riders safe and help them avoid motorcycle accidents when riding on crowded and congested roadways.

Always wear protective gear

Protective gear can save a motorcyclist’s life in the event of a crash. Before venturing out on the road, be sure to wear the proper protection. Examples of protective gear are long pants, boots that cover the ankles, abrasion resistant jackets and, most importantly, a full-face helmet.

Stay alert and anticipate

When riding in traffic, it is extremely important for motorcyclists to be extra aware of their surroundings. Try to anticipate what other drivers are going to do. Watch for turn signals of other vehicles and keep an eye on the front wheels for signs of changing lanes. Recognizing and anticipating potential moves of other vehicles will help riders be in a better position to avoid them.

Be patient

Riding in heavy traffic also requires patience. It is common for motorcycles to be cut off by other drivers. When something like this happens, it may be tempting to get angry and try to get back at the other driver. However, this is very dangerous and will only make things worse. If another driver makes an inconsiderate or wrong move, just let it go.

Those who ride motorcycles face unique risks that are not present for those in passenger vehicles. Since motorcyclists are completely exposed, motorcycle accidents involving other vehicles have higher odds of being serious or fatal. When motorcycle accidents occur due to the negligence of another party, victims or surviving family members in Colorado have the right to contact an experienced attorney and pursue damages. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in much needed and rightful compensation.
