Most drivers, from a young age, have been told of the dangers of driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Sadly, too often, people still make poor choices before getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, resulting in tragic car accidents in many cases. A recent incident in Colorado Springs involving a pedestrian and a car left a woman with serious injuries and the driver with serious charges.
Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department were called to the accident scene just after noon on a recent Friday. According to witnesses, a female construction worker had been hit by a vehicle. Apparently, she had been wearing a reflective vest.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers have said the female driver of the sedan that hit the woman appeared to be intoxicated. They have since charged her with DUI as well as other offences. Law enforcement is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the CSPD.
Unfortunately, whether in Colorado or elsewhere, car accidents involving pedestrians typically do not end well for the pedestrian. The victim in this case suffered serious injuries that could lead to her death or, if she survives, may permanently impact her lifestyle. Often, people who have been involved in these types of car accidents end up facing financial challenges due to medical costs, lost income and other unexpected expenses. The victim in this case may choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver, separate from any criminal charges, which may help her recoup monetary losses.
