Car accidents: Boy killed in hit-and-run crash at intersection

On Behalf of | Jun 10, 2020 | Car Accidents

Safe drivers know that not only must they thoroughly understand and follow the rules of the road, they also must consistently maintain focus while operating a motor vehicle. Unfortunately, car accidents often happen, in Colorado and elsewhere, when people fail to meet these requirements. Many different types of circumstances may lead to a crash, of course, but driving while impaired or distracted or other reckless driving behaviors are common causes. Any one of these factors may have contributed to a recent tragic incident that killed a male juvenile. A suspect has now been arrested in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash.

According to a probable cause statement from the  Denver Police Department, the crash happened when a 24-year-old man failed to stop at a stop sign at an intersection in east Denver. Apparently, he was traveling at an unknown rate of speed. His vehicle struck an SUV, causing it to roll over and land in a yard near the intersection. The man continued driving, hitting a parked car near the crash site. He fled that scene on foot, but police located him a short time later.

The male juvenile victim was found in the SUV and transported to a hospital, where sadly, he later succumbed to his injuries. Reportedly, the accused individual was being held in jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide. He has since been arrested and is being held on $50,000 bail.

Likely, most Colorado residents hear about car accidents like this one, and immediately empathize with the victim’s family, who must be enduring one of the worst times of their lives. Adding to their unimaginable grief is the likelihood that this tragedy directly resulted from the driver’s reckless actions and therefore could have been prevented. Often, in such situations, surviving family members choose to pursue legal action against the person believed to be responsible. An experienced personal injury attorney can provide valuable guidance for those wishing to explore this option.
