Car accidents: California Highway Patrol investigating crash

A fatal crash in Pueblo has prompted an investigation by local and state police, according to sources. The Colorado State Patrol is in the process of investigating the crash, which reportedly claimed the life of a passenger. As with an alarming number of car accidents, drugs and alcohol as well as unsafe speed are all being considered potential factors in this crash.

The report states that a 26-year-old man was driving his vehicle southbound on Interstate 25 on March 15 when the accident happened. For reasons that have yet to be determined, the car started weaving onto the shoulder before scraping a steel guardrail. When the driver tried to regain control, the vehicle traveled back across the highway and off the other side, rolling several times and ejecting a passenger.

That passenger, a 26-year-old man, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. He was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, nevertheless suffered serious injuries in the crash and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Colorado police are reaching out to the community and asking that anyone who may have witnessed the accident to get in touch with authorities.

Car accidents that claim lives are always tragic, but even more so when the accident could have been avoided. If it becomes clear the driver was drunk, high, or simply reckless or negligent, the family of the deceased passenger could use this evidence to support a wrongful death lawsuit filed against the driver. Such a suit is handled by civil court, though it is acceptable and even encouraged for police evidence to be used in support of a civil claim.
