Car accidents: 2 hurt in Colorado

Patricia M. Jarzobski

An accident on Wolf Creek Pass has sent two people to a local hospital, according to authorities. Colorado State Patrol responded to the single-car crash in the early morning of Nov. 9, wherein a driver and passenger were both hurt. Car accidents of this type typically require careful investigation to determine their cause, and Colorado State Patrol is currently conducting such an inquiry at this time.

Very little information was available as of this report, but it has been confirmed that police responded to the accident around 3:46 a.m. Officers went to the site of the accident on US. 160 in southwest Colorado, where they found a single vehicle had left the road for reasons unknown. It appears the vehicle had driven off the side of an embankment and traveled down between 300 and 400 feet before coming to rest.

The two occupants, a 49-year-old male driver and a 41-year-old female passenger, were both injured despite wearing seat belts. The woman was suffering from a broken sternum when medical help arrived, and the man was also injured, though his injuries are unknown at this time. Neither of their names were released, and the investigation is ongoing.

Single-car accidents may or may not be the fault of the driver involved. In this case, it appears Colorado authorities believe the man may have been fatigued behind the wheel, which may have contributed to the crash. If this is the case, he could face criminal censure for negligent driving. His female passenger may also separately choose to file a personal injury suit against him in civil court for the injuries she suffered during the accident.
