Car accidents: 1 injured in single-vehicle pedestrian accident

Patricia M. Jarzobski

A popular street festival was the site of near tragedy on the night of Sept. 1, according to local sources. The Denver festival, A Taste of Colorado, was disrupted by a vehicle driving through a barrier and injuring a pedestrian. As with all car accidents of this type, this one is still under investigation and charges could be pending against the driver.

Information was limited at the time of an early news report, with officers still on the scene. It has been confirmed that around 9 p.m. an unknown person drove a vehicle through a barrier set up to secure the outdoor festival. It appears the driver was attempting to circumvent the barrier when the vehicle involved struck a pedestrian, who has also not been publicly named by police. That individual suffered a leg injury of unknown severity.

It is unclear at this time what caused this accident, but police have not ruled out recklessness, negligence or intoxication as possible factors. It is also not known whether the driver is in police custody at this time, or whether he or she will face criminal charges. The investigation is ongoing and will continue until police determine a cause.

Car accidents causing injury are taken very seriously by Colorado authorities, particularly in situations where the potential for more injuries is so high. If the driver is found to be responsible for the accident, that individual could face a variety of criminal charges. Separately, the injured party is entitled to file a personal injury lawsuit in civil court in an attempt to be compensated for all documented monetary damages incurred.
