Car accidents: 1 dead, several injured in Colorado

A 29-year-old man is tragically dead, and several other people, including two children, have been hospitalized after a head-on crash in Commerce City. Colorado authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash and have not ruled out alcohol as a possible factor. As with most car accidents causing fatalities, this one is still under careful investigation as of this report.

According to the information available so far, the 29-year-old man was in the driver’s seat of the vehicle that also carried a 30-year-old woman from Amherst and two children of indeterminate age. The relationship between the car’s occupants has not been determined at this time. Their vehicle collided head-on with a van carrying two men who have not been identified publicly. The force of the impact damaged the car to the point where the occupants had to be extracted by emergency personnel.

The 29-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the other occupants of his vehicle remain in the hospital with serious injuries. The two men in the van were also taken to the hospital, though their conditions were deemed to be not life-threatening. The cause of the driver’s death will be determined by a county coroner.

If alcohol indeed played a role in this crash, as it does in many car accidents in Colorado, police may determine the fault for the accident lies with the deceased driver. If this is the case, the injured parties and the children’s legal guardians may be able to make use of this evidence to bolster personal injury claims in civil court. Such evidence is not necessary to file a personal injury suit but can be helpful in convincing the court to award damages to the injured parties.
