Police are still trying to determine what caused a serious crash that injured multiple people on the night of June 20, according to local sources. The Colorado Highway Patrol in association with the Windsor Police Department are investigating the crash, and so far no arrests have been made. As with many car accidents, however, police have asked that anyone with information about the accident reach out to authorities.
Information about the accident is still limited at this time, but it has been confirmed that it happened around 7:40 p.m. on Colorado 392. Five vehicles were involved, including a motorcycle, two SUVs and two pickup trucks, which were traveling both east and west on 392. Unfortunately, the specifics of what caused the chain reaction to begin have yet to be fully determined.
Thankfully, there were no fatalities that resulted from the accident, but multiple people were injured. Four were sent to local hospitals with injuries ranging from mild to serious, but the exact conditions of those involved in the accident are as yet unknown. Police have not ruled out driver error, recklessness, negligence or intoxication as possible factors that led to the accident, and their investigation remains underway as of this report.
In car accidents with no clear cause, it is incumbent upon Colorado police to pursue this investigation until the cause is formally documented. At that point, criminal charges may be filed against one or more drivers involved in the accident. Separately, state law allows any injured parties to file personal injury suits against the driver(s) believed materially responsible for the accident, in a civil court setting.
