A 29-year-old man is under arrest following a serious accident that sent six people to the hospital, according to local sources. Colorado Springs police responded to the crash on the afternoon of July 24. As with many car accidents, police are still in the process of investigating the cause of this crash, though it appears one driver may face charges of DUI.
According to the limited information available in the report, it appears the 29-year-old was driving south in the northbound lanes of Academy in Colorado Springs when the accident occurred. The man crashed into another vehicle turning northbound onto Academy, and then collided with another vehicle turning southbound. A total of six people were injured in the crash, which occurred around 1:50 p.m.
The conditions of the injured parties are not clear at this time, but it appears at least some of the injured suffered severe injuries. It is not clear whether the 29-year-old was among those hurt. Police arrested the man on-site and charged him with vehicular assault and driving under the influence. Police closed the intersection for several hours to facilitate their investigation.
Car accidents that cause injury or death are carefully investigated by Colorado authorities to determine exactly what occurred and who may have been responsible for the accident. If the man is found guilty of the criminal charges filed against him, he could face the loss of his license and possible jail time, among other penalties. Separately, the injured parties are entitled to file personal injury lawsuits against him in civil court.
