Two people have lost their lives after a serious accident on Interstate 25, according to police. The Colorado State Patrol has confirmed the death of an 82-year-old man and his female passenger. As with many car accidents, the cause of this tragic crash has yet to be determined by police, though the investigation is still underway as of this report.
According to the limited information available, it appears an 82-year-old Texas resident was traveling south on I-25 in the late afternoon of May 31, when for reasons unknown he appeared to lose control of his vehicle. The car, which police later said showed no signs of slowing down, left the road and smashed into an overpass bridge. The force of the impact totaled the vehicle and may have damaged the bridge as well.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger, who has not been publicly identified by police at this time, was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries. She was also pronounced dead some time later. Police are withholding the names of both individuals pending notification of next of kin. Preliminary reports suggest the driver may have been influenced by a medical condition.
Regardless of the reason why the crash occurred, the family of the deceased passenger may wish to pursue a civil lawsuit against the driver’s estate in a Colorado civil court. Suing for wrongful death in car accidents that cause fatalities can result in the court awarding damages to the grieving family.
