Judge's wife killed in Thanksgiving hit-and-run car accident

Patricia M. Jarzobski

The holidays are a time of happiness, family, celebration and excitement. One family from another state will never think of Thanksgiving the same way again. Their memories will forever be tainted by the tragedy that occurred this Thanksgiving in a Denver crosswalk. On that fateful night, three members of their family were struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run car accident. One of the family members will never get to have another Thanksgiving, and the others are left to relive the disaster each year.

Many people zig-zag across the country each year via car, plane or bus to be able to spend Thanksgiving with their loved ones. A judge from another state and his wife were visiting their daughter in Denver this Thanksgiving. That evening, as the family of three was in the crosswalk at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Quebec Street, they were all struck by a car. The father and daughter were injured and taken to the hospital. The wife was killed.

The driver of the car fled the scene. Witnesses claimed the car was a dark-colored sedan that has damage to the front and windshield. Police are searching for the driver and are reaching out to the public for help.

The victim, a 65-year-old woman, was a media specialist at an elementary school. She had planned to retire this year. She had wanted to enjoy life while she still could and spend time with her family. Tragically, she will never get that chance.

Losing a loved one is hard any time of year, but when that loss occurs around the holidays, the sting of the tragedy seems even more acute. It seems unfair to have what is, for many people, the happiest time of year marred by the oppressing burden of death. Once the driver of the vehicle in the car accident is captured, the family can get answers to some of their questions and begin their healing process. With the help of an experienced attorney, the family can seek restitution for the damages they have suffered.
