Three people were taken to local hospitals after a two-car crash in Colorado Springs, according to local news sources. Colorado authorities were on the scene after the crash that took place on the morning of March 26. At this point, police believe speeding was a factor in the crash, as it is in many recorded car accidents, but no charges have been filed.
According to the information available in this report, a vehicle driven by an unknown person traveling approximately 80 miles per hour is believed to have run a red light in Colorado Springs around 8:45 a.m. Police have not confirmed whether the car actually ran through the light. However, they have determined the driver was speeding, given the extent of the damage to both vehicles.
One of the vehicles apparently caught fire as a result of the impact. Three people were taken to local hospitals following the crash, though none of their injuries are believed to be life threatening. It is unclear which vehicles in which these individuals were riding. While no charges have been filed at this time, police say charges will be forthcoming, likely against the driver believed to be speeding.
In car accidents of this type, criminal charges are not uncommon. However, Colorado law will allow any injured parties to file personal injury suits against the driver or drivers believed responsible for the accident in civil court. These suits must be supported by compelling evidence of the driver or drivers’ material contribution to the accident and resulting injuries.
