A two-car crash in Boulder County has left one person dead and another injured, according to local authorities. Colorado State Patrol typically responds to car accidents on major state highways, so they were on the scene of this crash in the early morning of Nov. 27. So far, they have not filed charges against anyone involved in the accident, and their investigation into the cause of the crash is still underway.
According to the preliminary accident report, the accident happened at an intersection on U.S. 287 before 9 a.m. One person, a 22-year-old woman, was pronounced dead by medical personnel arriving at the scene. A 45-year-old man was also hurt and was taken to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries have not been released to the public at this time, and his current condition is unknown.
Police closed the northbound section of the highway to facilitate their investigation. The southbound lanes remained open with heavy traffic blocking the area for at least a mile. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has not released a public statement about this accident other than to announce its investigation at this time.
In car accidents where a solid cause cannot be identified immediately, Colorado police typically conduct an in-depth investigation to determine which driver or drivers are responsible for the crash. At the moment, too little information is available in this case to guess at its outcome. However, it may be possible for the family of the deceased individual and/or the injured party to file civil lawsuits for wrongful death or personal injury, as applicable, against a driver or drivers found to have materially contributed to the crash.
