Brain injury claims life of 21-year-old snowboarder in Colorado

On Behalf of | Dec 29, 2017 | Brain Injury

This is the time of the year that brings masses of visitors to Colorado. Colorado’s world-class ski resorts are their destinations, but with more people on the slopes, more accidents occur — some resulting in catastrophic injuries, such as traumatic brain injury. Statistics show that 14 lives were lost on the ski slopes in Colorado in 2016.

One of the most recent ski accidents involved a 21-year-old man who took on a beginner trail on a snowboard at one of the Colorado resorts on Dec. 2. When he did not return, ski patrol apparently went in search and found him where he had crashed into a tree. Reportedly, the young man was alive when they reached him, but his injuries were critical.

He was rushed to a Lakewood hospital where doctors treated the severe head trauma he had suffered and tried to save his life. Sadly, his family had to make the tough decision no family wants to face — they ordered the life support to be turned off on Dec. 5. Authorities say that another skier died at a different Colorado resort on the evening of the day that this young man crashed into a tree.

While this was ruled an unfortunate incident, many other accidents that cause severe damage, such as brain injury, spinal cord injury and even deaths, have resulted from the negligence of others. Victims of collisions on the slopes or accidents that were caused by equipment malfunctions, inadequately maintained ski lodge stairs, falls from chairlifts or the negligent behaviors of another party may have grounds to pursue financial relief. With the support and guidance of an experienced personal injury and wrongful death attorney, a civil lawsuit can be filed to seek recovery of financial and emotional damages.
