Investigators in Colorado Springs say they believe street racing may have played a role in an accident that seriously injured at least one person. Colorado authorities have not filed charges as of this report, but as with many motorcycle accidents, their investigation may be treated as a criminal one, depending on the information they gather. The accident is said to have taken place the morning of Oct. 14.
Very few details are currently available about the nature of the accident, but police believe the unidentified motorcyclist may have been engaged in street racing when the accident happened. The motorcycle was heading west in the eastbound lane when it struck another vehicle. The other car was attempting to execute a U-turn at the time of the impact.
The motorcyclist was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition. The condition of the other driver is not known at this time. It is also unknown if anyone else was in the car at the time of the impact. Police have not released the names of those involved in the crash.
Too little is known about this particular case to make an accurate prediction on its outcome. However, it may be possible that one or both drivers could face criminal charges or citations if it becomes clear that street racing was occurring on the part of the motorcyclist, or if the other driver was attempting an illegal U-turn. As with most motorcycle accidents, one or both drivers may also be entitled under Colorado state law to file a personal injury suit against the other in civil court.
