Motorcycle accidents: 2 hurt in Colorado

Two people were injured in an accident involving a car and a motorcycle, according to an officer on the scene. Motorcycle accidents can be particularly dangerous to the rider, since a bike provides nowhere near the protection of a car. In this case, Colorado authorities are still trying to determine the cause of the accident.

An officer was nearby the crash site in El Paso County near Highway 85 around 9 p.m. the night of Sept 2. That officer has confirmed that a car and a motorcycle collided in the northbound lanes. The identities of the two injured parties were not publicly revealed, so it is unclear whether the motorcyclist was among those injured. However, two people were taken to a local hospital by medical authorities. Their conditions are unknown.

Police investigated the accident scene for several hours, keeping the highway closed during that time. They have not found a cause, or determined which driver was responsible for the crash. However, they have ruled out drugs and alcohol as possible causes of the accident as of this report. The possibility of negligence and/or recklessness remains on the table.

Motorcycle accidents, like all motor vehicle crashes, are carefully investigated to ensure that the material contributions of both drivers are taken into consideration. In this case, too little information is available to make a determination as to which of these drivers might be culpable, if not both. However, in these cases, Colorado law allows injured parties to sue for personal injury in a civil court, using evidence of negligence to corroborate their claims and support their case.
