Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol can have serious consequences, often resulting in car accidents. The girl was walking with a friend in the middle of the afternoon when the 33-year-old driver hit her and fled the scene. His record shows he has two more arrests, the second just one month prior to this incident, and both for the same infraction.
The state laws say that three DUI arrests are a misdemeanor, and it would take one more to classify as a felony. A sheriff’s department spokesperson attempted to answer the questioning parents by stating that an added violation, such as driving with a suspended or revoked license, could possibly get the driver off the street but that each case is different. The driver recently made a brief court appearance and is expected to return to court in the next month.
