Although the campaign against using cell phones while driving is certainly justified, the truth is there are many things can distract drivers. Unfortunately, many people have found that simply not keeping focus on the road can lead to car accidents. One of the recently reported car accidents in Colorado has led to the death of a man in Denver.
A report on the incident states that the 28-year-old driver of a red sedan was yelling out her car window to a person on the sidewalk, possibly her boyfriend. The distraction caused her vehicle to jump a curb and hit the traffic light located on the sidewalk. It then crashed into a car waiting for the light to turn green, the impact killing the other driver.
While police are not yet definitively able to say drugs or alcohol were involved, they did say the driver might have been under the influence at the time of the incident. She has been charged with reckless driving and vehicular homicide. According to members of the deceased man’s family, the $50,000 bond set for the woman was not high enough.
Fatal car accidents are devastating. Surviving family members may be entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit to pursue recovery of monetary damages, including medical bills and funeral and burial costs. In this tragedy, it would appear that the victim’s family has grounds to commence a claim in civil court against the accused woman and any other party with an ownership interest in the vehicle she was operating. Attorneys in Colorado are ready to fight for the rights of those who are going through similar circumstances.
