While some car accidents are caused by acts of nature, most others are caused by negligence on the part of at least one driver. Cell phone usage, alertness of a driver or rubbernecking can all be distractions and can result in destructive car accidents. Colorado police are investigating a recent accident that led to one fatality and serious injury for others involved.
Police reports state that a Jeep SUV and a dump truck were riding side by side on the right lanes of the interstate when they collided. It is still unclear as to which vehicle left the lane in which it had been traveling, thus initiating the crash. The heavier truck pushed the Jeep onto a Jersey barrier, causing first the Jeep and then the truck to catch fire.
A woman who had been severely burned fell out of the passenger side of the Jeep. People who had stopped to help pulled two others out of the vehicle, but the fourth occupant died at the scene. The driver of the truck was not injured. Police will probe further to determine which driver may have been at fault for the accident.
The range of injury inflicted by car accidents varies. Sometimes, the only damage is to the vehicles themselves. Other times, everyone involved can be seriously hurt or killed. When the accident is caused by negligence on the part of another person, victims can file personal injury or wrongful death lawsuits. An experienced Colorado attorney can explain the particulars of each type of suit and can lead the injured party or their family members in the pursuit of financial compensation.
