It is not usual to see many cars out on the road in the dead of night, which may be one of the reasons some drivers are not so cautious and may not completely follow the rules of the road during that time. Those rules were put in place to prevent car accidents and to keep drivers and their passengers safe, no matter the time of day or night. One recent crash in Colorado Springs resulted in a fatality.
Around 2 a.m., the driver of a sedan apparently ran a red light and collided with a pickup truck going through the intersection. The force of the impact threw both the driver and the passenger in the sedan from the car. The female died as a result, and the male was transported to a local hospital. A report did not clarify which person was driving the vehicle.
In order to extract the truck driver from the cab, rescue firefighters had to cut a hole in the cab’s roof. Once they got the driver out, she was also taken to a medical facility for treatment. Although the investigation is not yet complete, police believe alcohol consumption was a factor in the wreck.
Those who have survived car accidents in which there has been serious injury or a fatality know that it can be difficult to comprehend all that has happened. Often, it is not easy to figure out the next steps to take. Victims, including the surviving families of deceased victims, may have grounds to pursue a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit against the party or parties whose negligence caused or contributed to the accident. A Colorado attorney can guide accident victims through the process as they decide what steps may be applicable to the particular circumstances.
