Fatalities in motorcycle accidents may prompt lawsuits

Patricia M. Jarzobski

The rules of the road apply to everyone on the road, no matter the age and no matter the manner of transportation. Those who choose to violate those rules may cause serious damage in the form of car or motorcycle accidents. Victims who have been injured in car or motorcycle accidents often decide to file a personal injury lawsuit, while surviving families of deceased victims may opt to pursue a wrongful death claim. A 46-year-old Colorado man died recently in a crash attributed to the negligence of another person.

A spokesperson for the local sheriff's office stated the late-night accident happened when a 15-year-old was driving his ATV in the wrong direction. He was headed south in the northbound lane and crashed head-on into a motorcycle being driven by the older man. Police have not yet concluded their investigation into the incident.

Emergency personnel took the driver of the motorcycle to a local hospital, where he died after arrival. The ATV operator was also critically injured. He was flown to an area hospital and then to a second medical facility nearly two hours away. There has been no update on his condition nor any word on pending charges.

Grieving family members often have too much on their hearts and minds after the loss of a loved one. It may be difficult to formulate a clear plan of action when seeking financial compensation. Whether it is from motorcycle accidents or another type of motor vehicle collision, a Colorado attorney with experience in wrongful death litigation will work to ease the burden and will endeavor to fight for a civil court judgment to cover all current and future monetary damages.
