There have been countless television commercials, billboards and social media campaigns that warn people against drinking and driving. No matter how many advertisements are published, however, there are still those who choose to disregard the cautions. Many times drinking and driving causes car accidents that result in injuries and/or fatalities. One recent crash in Colorado Springs may have been a result of someone driving under the influence.
The police department’s Major Accident Unit was called to the scene after a collision between two vehicles, with all occupants severely injured. The police reports note that a 42-year-old woman driving a red Ford Mustang is suspected of causing a minor accident, after which she drove away from the scene. In her effort to escape, she apparently ran a stop sign, crashed into a pickup truck and then stopped when she hit a brick wall.
The woman and her daughter, the only passenger, had to be rescued from the car while the driver of the truck was thrown clear of his vehicle. They were all taken to a nearby hospital, where their injuries were determined to be serious. The police have arrested the woman for driving under the influence in addition to felony traffic charges.
Those who have been injured in car accidents often choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver believed responsible for the accident. Financial compensation can be sought for medical expenses incurred as a result of the accident, lost wages from time missed from work, pain and suffering as well as other documented financial losses. A Colorado attorney experienced in handling these types of claims can assist victims in fighting for a fair settlement.
