Some Colorado car accidents are deliberate

On Behalf of | Mar 16, 2017 | Car Accidents

Winter weather conditions in Colorado make it that much easier to get in an accident. However, most car accidents are caused by the negligence of at least one driver. On occasion, they may be intentional. One recent crash was allegedly caused by the intentional acts of an angry girlfriend.

Police say the woman and her boyfriend were arguing outside a local sports bar and grill. She was in the drivers’ seat of her SUV, and he was standing next to the vehicle. She suddenly put the SUV in reverse and backed over a 10-foot retaining wall, landing in another parking lot. The man was dragged along and fell with the car into a lower parking lot. The girlfriend then reportedly put the car in drive, ran over him and fled.

Once the boyfriend was found, he was airlifted to a hospital approximately 30 miles away. His condition was most recently listed as stable but critical. Police tracked the damaged vehicle and the girlfriend, who appeared to be intoxicated at the time she was apprehended. She was arrested and has been charged with several offenses, including vehicular assault and DUI. Her bond has been set at $10,000.

Those injured in car accidents often have costly medical and rehab bills as well as loss of income due to time missed from work. Many have the option of filing a personal injury lawsuit to seek recovery of at least a portion of those losses incurred. Should they choose to take that path, they will need an attorney who has a thorough knowledge of the personal injury laws in Colorado that are applicable to their situation.
