Pedestrians should be fully aware of what is going on around them at all times. Close proximity to moving vehicles requires heightened attentiveness to avoid car accidents. Unfortunately, car accidents involving pedestrians happen no matter how careful a person may be. A Colorado woman was recently killed as she was attempting to cross the road.
The 88-year-old woman was in the crosswalk of an intersection when she was hit by a Honda CRV. According to the Colorado State Patrol, the light at the intersection was green as the CRV approached. The area around the intersection was not well lit, and the sun had set well before the accident.
A report on the incident did not specify if the woman was pronounced dead at the scene or if she was taken to an area hospital before her passing. Neither the driver of the CRV nor his female passenger were injured. They both cooperated completely with responding law enforcement personnel.
When car accidents involve a fatality, family members of the deceased may have many questions to go along with their overwhelming grief. If the investigation by police indicates the death was caused by negligence on the part of another driver, the family can opt to file a wrongful death lawsuit against that driver to get financial damages to compensate for the loss of their loved one. The laws pertaining to this type of legal action vary by state, and an attorney licensed to practice in Colorado can give a client the information he or she needs as they pursue compensation.
