Car accidents have potential to cause serious injury

All drivers have a responsibility to drive as safely as possible when they are behind the wheel. Many times those obligations are unheeded for any number of reasons and result in car accidents. One of the more recent car accidents involved a Colorado State Patrol officer while he was off duty.

A police report stated that the trooper ran a stop sign and was hit by an SUV that was going through the intersection. The collision sent both vehicles into a field beside the road. The trooper and his passenger, a minor, were taken to one hospital, and the driver and passenger in the SUV were taken to another. The injuries to all four people were said to be serious, but conditions at the time of the report were unavailable.

The trooper has been with the state patrol for five years, and it does not appear that drugs or alcohol had any part in the crash. The Critical Incident Response Team has been requested to investigate the accident, as it involved an officer of the law. They will present their findings to the county’s district attorney’s office for assessment.

Car accidents such as this one have the potential to result in a personal injury lawsuit by those who were injured. When one person has been hurt because another person was negligent, he or she has the option to recover financial expenses spent on medical treatment and care and lost wages from not being able to work through any awards granted through a lawsuit. Those who feel they meet the stipulations required by the state of Colorado will want to speak to an attorney who has experience dealing with insurance companies, other attorneys and the court.
