The tragic loss of a loved one due to the negligence of another person can leave a person devastated. A Colorado man and his daughter are plaintiffs in a wrongful death suit filed after the man’s wife was killed by an intoxicated driver.
The man’s wife was a state trooper who had pulled off I-25 to investigate another crash. The trooper, after having been alerted by dispatch, was on the phone with a driver who was in a car behind the intoxicated driver. The first driver tried to warn the trooper that the drunk driver was headed toward her, but he was too late. She was hit, and the drunk driver kept going.
The lawsuit is being filed against the intoxicated driver, an Army colonel who retired after serving 27 years, as well as the bar that served the man until he could barely stand. It had been determined earlier that the colonel had already been drinking at a Bronco’s football game before he patronized the bar. An exact dollar amount being sought by the trooper’s husband and daughter was not reported, but it included loss of projected income had the woman lived.
Drunk driving is just one of the examples of the ways a person can cause debilitating injury or death. Any negligent action that results in physical harm can prompt a lawsuit.
