Over the past several years, most people have seen the videos that have inundated social media of the aftereffects of texting and driving. While certainly dangerous, texting is not the only distraction that can cause car accidents. Trying to find a decent radio station, eating while behind the wheel and passengers along for the ride are just a few of the diversions that can take a driver’s mind off the road. Of the numerous car accidents that have occurred on Colorado roads already this month, a man was killed and two other people were injured.
Colorado State Patrol records indicate the man was driving on a state highway when he veered over into oncoming traffic. The belief was that he was somehow distracted and was not aware he had left his driving lane. He hit a pickup truck head on before he could swerve to avoid the collision. A motorhome was behind the pickup truck but its driver was not able to stop before hitting the car.
When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they found the driver of the car dead and the driver and passenger of the pickup seriously injured. One of the injured was sent to a local hospital and the other was airlifted to a medical facility two hours away. No one in the motorhome was injured.
Whether it is from car accidents or other types of accidents, those who have been injured due to the negligence of another party have the right to seek compensation by filing a personal injury lawsuit. Any money awarded can be used to pay medical bills, reimburse wages from time taken from work for recuperation and cover other damages recognized by our laws. Colorado residents in such circumstances will want a seasoned personal injury attorney who will fight to get them the money they deserve.
