Driving a motor vehicle comes with many responsibilities. A licensed operator is expected to obey numerous rules of the road while he or she is behind the wheel. Not following those rules can, and often does, result in car accidents. Those car accidents can bring severe injuries or even deaths. One recent Colorado accident took the life of a 14-year-old boy.
Police reports state that an 18-year-old man was behind the wheel of a pickup truck and driving recklessly when he went off the road. The truck started spinning across the road to the other side and then turned over once to stop in the field beside the road. The driver and his two passengers were not thrown from the truck, even though they were not wearing their seat belts.
When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found one of the passengers unresponsive. The condition of the other passenger was not reported, but the driver was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries. He was released soon afterward, and the police arrested him on charges of vehicular homicide, reckless driving and driving under the influence.
Many people suffer in different ways after car accidents. When a death is involved, surviving family members suffer with heartbreaking grief for their loved one. The person responsible for the accident is often wracked with guilt for years to come. He or she may also face criminal charges, as well as a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of the deceased. Colorado residents who have lost loved ones due to negligent actions on the part of others may want to speak to caring professionals about the legal options available for that type of lawsuit.
