Many people in Colorado are injured everyday by others who are negligent. A number of those injuries occur from car accidents. Car accidents can happen when there is some type of equipment failure, when drivers’ senses are dulled by an intoxicating substance or when a driver is simply careless. One recent early-evening crash between three vehicles resulted in the death of one of the drivers.
Police reports state that a man in an SUV tried to pass a car as both vehicles were headed east on a state highway. After the SUV crossed over into the westbound lane, it collided with a van pulling a trailer. The collision caused a pickup truck behind the van to crash into the trailer.
The driver of the van was killed instantly but his passenger only suffered minor injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital. The driver of the SUV was also taken to the hospital and treated, but his passenger, as well as the driver of the pickup truck, were not injured. All five people were wearing their seat belts. Charges have yet to be filed, but officers do not think drugs or alcohol were involved. The state patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
Whether or not charges are eventually filed, if negligence is proved, the family of the man who was killed may want to pursue legal action against the driver of the SUV. The loss of loved ones in car accidents or any other type of accident is devastating and family members who are suffering may need legal guidance when proceeding with a wrongful death lawsuit. In Colorado, there are those who are available to assist during such a devastating period.
