Riding a motorcycle can give a person a feeling of freedom when he or she is out on the open road, but it can also carry a certain amount of danger. Motorcycle accidents are common on the roads of Colorado and can leave riders with varying degrees of injuries. One of those motorcycle accidents recently resulted in death to one rider and serious injury to another.
Police reports state that officers found the 64-year-old male rider lying on the road. He was bleeding and was barely conscious. After being transported to a medical facility several hours away with injuries that were considered life-threatening, there had been no update on his condition by the next day. His 60-year-old female passenger had been thrown down an embankment where she died despite attempts to revive her.
Police have determined the driver did not correctly navigate a turn in the road on which he was driving and struck a guardrail. Each of the riders was wearing a helmet, and neither drugs nor alcohol have been reported as being factors in the accident. Local police have handed the investigation over to the state patrol office.
Motorcycle accidents are treated the same as any other accident if negligence proves to be a factor. Should the man recover from his injuries, the family of the woman may consider filing a wrongful death lawsuit against him if results of the investigation conclude he was careless while on the road. Colorado residents who have faced similar circumstances may want the advice of someone with experience in filing these types of lawsuits.
