Lawsuits may be filed after deadly car accidents

On Behalf of | Jun 23, 2016 | Car Accidents

Whether it makes the national headlines or just the local paper, death is in the news every day. Unfortunately, the outcomes of car accidents can be blamed for a number of those stories. Car accidents that result in death may happen for many different reasons, and the subsequent loss is heartbreaking to those left behind. One Colorado family is grieving after their loved one was killed in a recent accident.

Police reported they were called to the scene of a single-car accident around 11 p.m. When they arrived, they found two men injured and a third man deceased.  The driver of the car was nowhere to be found in the immediate area. He was eventually found nearby after a few hours of police searching.

Although they have not concluded their investigation, police determined the driver had been driving much faster than the posted speed limit when he lost control of his car. The car hit a tree on the side of the road and began spinning. A passenger in the back seat was not wearing his seatbelt and was thrown from the car, where he died from his injuries. The other two men, as well as the driver when he was found, were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for the serious injuries they all sustained. Police arrested the driver at the hospital with charges of DUI, vehicular assault and vehicular homicide, among others.

The family of the deceased man may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver of the vehicle. Any money they may win in an award will not bring back their loved one, but it will help in paying any medical bills and funeral costs, and they may get some comfort in knowing they received some justice for a senseless act. Likewise, the injured parties may file their own personal injury suits. Whether the loss is from car accidents or other types of catastrophes, anyone in Colorado who has experienced suffering at the hand of another person will want to speak to someone who will be able to competently represent them as they seek retribution.
