Motorcycle accidents caused by negligence have serious costs

On Behalf of | Mar 3, 2016 | Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents can result from several different causes. Weather conditions, malfunctions of some part of the motorcycles themselves, riders’ irresponsibility or the carelessness of other drivers on the road have, at one time or another, been the reasons for accidents. Injuries suffered because of motorcycle accidents may range from minor scrapes and bruises to serious to deadly injuries. Two Colorado residents were killed in a recent incident that occurred on a late February afternoon.

A man and woman on one motorcycle and another man on a second motorcycle were headed north when a sedan coming from the opposite direction crossed over into their lane and crashed into both motorcycles. The couple was thrown from their motorcycle and killed instantly. The third motorcyclist suffered minimal injuries. None of the cyclists were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The woman driving the sedan was reported as being seriously injured, but there was no mention of responding emergency personnel taking her to a hospital for treatment. State troopers reportedly believe her driving abilities were impaired from drug and alcohol use. She was arrested and jailed on charges of assault and vehicular homicide, as well as others relating to driving under the influence.

The actions of the accused woman have paved the way for possible lawsuits against her. The families of the two who were killed may want to seek damages by filing wrongful death suits and the third person may want compensation via a personal injury suit. Colorado residents who have suffered in motorcycle accidents may want the help of those who have thorough knowledge of the law as it pertains to negligence and personal injury to represent them as they pursue compensation.
