Daughter files wrongful death lawsuit in Nancy Pfister’s murder

On Behalf of | Feb 4, 2016 | Wrongful Death

The murder of Colorado socialite, Nancy Pfister, has led to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by her daughter. The daughter’s attorney has stated she wants justice for the murder because she feels it was not served in the outcome of an earlier criminal court proceeding. The dollar amount sought in the wrongful death suit was not revealed in a report on the case.

The murder victim’s body was found in a bedroom closet by her personal assistant. After investigations by the local sheriff’s office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the assistant and a couple were arrested for the murder. When one of the accused testified that he alone committed the murder, the cases against the other two, both women, were dropped. The couple had gotten to know the victim when they rented some property from her after moving to Aspen. She eventually evicted them after several disagreements over rent payments.

The attorney for the wife of the man who confessed claimed there was no evidence that her client had participated in the murder and that she had only been arrested because she was married to the man who admitted committing the deed. She filed for divorce from her husband but received $1 million in life insurance after he killed himself in prison. The wife also wrote and profited from a book that told her side of the story in the murder. The wrongful death lawsuit claims she insulted and ridiculed the socialite as well as her family in the book.

The criteria for winning a wrongful death suit are not as stringent as for a criminal trial. The daughter’s attorney feels sure he will have the needed evidence to confirm the guilty man’s wife actually was involved in the murder. Residents in Colorado who have lost family members because of the actions of another party have the to speak to an attorney to discuss their legal options.
