Colorado wrongful death claims sometimes mention alcohol/drugs

Patricia M. Jarzobski

The vast expanses of Colorado include busy highways that thousands of motorists share on a daily basis. Some are tourists and many are residents, traveling here or there and hoping to arrive safely. When an accident occurs, it can leave disaster and tragedy in its wake. If a crash proves fatal, the devastation is magnified; when caused by driver negligence, it sometimes leads to a wrongful death claim being filed in a civil court.

Three occupants in the same vehicle were involved in such a tragedy on a recent Monday morning. The car was in the eastbound lane of traffic at the time. For reasons unknown, the driver lost control of his steering, and the vehicle struck a guardrail. The impact of the crash sent the vehicle into multiple rollovers.

A young woman, age 19, was ejected from the vehicle. Tragically, she did not survive her injuries and was pronounced dead at the collision site. The driver and another passenger both survived their injuries.

Authorities investigating the accident believe that alcohol and/or drugs may have been determining factors in the tragedy. A Colorado family who has suffered the untimely death of a young relative would understandably be overwrought with grief. As they struggle to cope with their immense loss, they do have the legal right to file a wrongful death claim on behalf of their deceased loved one. An experienced personal injury lawyer would be able to guide them through the process in order to seek restitution in court, based upon evidence of driver negligence.
