Car accidents can be caused by drivers under the influence

On Behalf of | Nov 18, 2015 | Car Accidents

Car accidents do not happen only to ordinary citizens, they also can happen to law enforcement officials who patrol the streets and highways to ensure safety to all on the roads. A state patrol trooper was killed at the scene of one of the many car accidents that have occurred on the portion of Interstate 25 that runs through Colorado. The 33-year-old female trooper left behind a small child and a husband.

According to a report on the accident, the trooper had stopped to investigate another crash that had occurred. While she was out of her patrol vehicle, the driver hit the trooper and then took off down the highway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver left the scene but was caught sometime later and was taken to the county jail for processing. It was discovered that he had been a colonel in the Army and had served 27 years before he retired. He was charged with driving under the influence, vehicular homicide and fleeing the scene of an accident. His bond was set at $1 million.

In this accident, the Colorado trooper’s family may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit to help with unexpected end-of-life expenses. In other car accidents, however, injuries may not be as devastating as in this accident. Filing a personal injury lawsuit that requests financial recompense for any medical bills, rehabilitation costs or to offset lost pay from missed time from work may be less complicated with a knowledgeable professional who can navigate the legal waters for a possible settlement.
